Kindness Matters: A Rosh Hashana Message

By Arizona Kosher Food Pantry, Jewish community servicesNo Comments

As we approach Rosh Hashana, we are given an opportunity to pause, reflect, and think about the kind of people we want to be in the year ahead.

Judaism teaches us that holiness is not found only in prayer. It is also found in the way we treat our fellow human beings.

The Torah contains many mitzvot that teach us to care for others, especially those who may be struggling. It teaches us an important lesson about helping those in need: we should not always wait for someone to come and ask for help.

Sometimes people are too embarrassed, too proud, or simply too overwhelmed to say that they need assistance. That is why we have a responsibility to notice, to act, and to care.

At the Arizona Kosher Food Pantry, we see every day how meaningful a simple act of kindness can be. Providing a family with groceries, preparing a meal for someone who is struggling, offering a helping hand, or simply making someone feel seen and cared for can make a tremendous difference.

As we welcome the new year, may Rosh Hashana remind us that kindness is not something we do only when it is convenient. It is a responsibility we carry with us every day.

This Rosh Hashana, let us look around us. Let us notice those who may need a little extra help. Let us give generously, care compassionately, and make sure that no one in our community feels forgotten.

From all of us at the Arizona Kosher Food Pantry, we wish you and your family a Shana Tova U’Metukah, a happy, healthy, and sweet new year.

Remember: KINDNESS MATTERS.

Parshat Re’eh

By About the Pantry & Organization, Community supportNo Comments

In this week’s Torah portion, Parshat Re’eh, the Torah reminds us:

“Open your hand to the poor and needy.”
– Devarim 15:11

The parsha goes on to discuss the mitzvah of tzedakah and our responsibility to care for those who are vulnerable and in need. But this mitzvah encompasses far more than simply giving money. It is about opening our hands, our hearts, and our homes to others.

When you prepare a home-cooked meal for someone in need, you are giving much more than food. You are giving your time, your effort, your care, and a sense of dignity and comfort.

A meal that takes hours to plan, prepare, and cook carries something special with it. Every ingredient, every step, and every bit of time invested says: You matter. Someone cared enough to prepare this for you.

So much of the love in a Jewish home is expressed through food. We cook for our families, we prepare for Shabbat, and we fill our tables with meals made with intention and love. When we extend that same care to someone who is struggling, we bring that warmth beyond the walls of our own homes.

This kindness does more than nourish the body. It nourishes the soul.

As we enter Shabbat, may we all merit to keep our hands and hearts open to those in need, and to have the opportunity to bring nourishment, dignity, and warmth to the vulnerable members of our community.

Shabbat Shalom to you and all your loved ones.

The Month of Healing

By About the Pantry & Organization, Community NewsNo Comments

During the Hebrew month of Iyar, we are reminded of one of its deepest themes: healing. Even as the month begins to draw to a close, its message continues to resonate in meaningful ways.

Each of us has a unique place in this world where we can bring healing, kindness, and light to others. Your support of the Arizona Kosher Food Pantry is a beautiful expression of that mission. Through your generosity and compassion, you are helping bring comfort, dignity, nourishment, and hope into people’s lives.

In Jewish tradition, healing is not only physical. It can also mean easing worry, restoring hope, strengthening community, and reminding someone that they are not alone. Every act of giving has the power to uplift another person in ways we may never fully see.

As we complete these final days of Iyar, may we continue to carry its message forward — choosing kindness, generosity, and care for one another.

May you and your families be blessed with health, happiness, and all forms of goodness.
